Hi Eric - Interesting questions. "1. Is there any situation where a preprogramed response is better than a high performance state?" My guess is that someone will come up with an example of a context in which they think that "preprogrammed" is better - perhaps a life or death situation in which one needs to immediately follow a particular sequence in order to survive. However, if a person is able to act effectively in a such a situation, it seems to me that they would be entering a high-performance state in order to run the sequence. (As an example, I think in Whispering John mentions having to re-start the engine on a plane he was flying). You wrote: "There are a lot of tasks that are part of life in Western society in which a unconscious, or even balanced hemisphere approach might not work. How about running for president, or formulating a company's marketing strategy, or planning your finances? Or taking the MCAT." I not clear as to why a balanced hemispheric state would not work in the above contexts. |
