1. Well, any repetitive situation where there is only one appropriate response. And where there are significant costs to not being able to meet that response on any trial. John's example of re-starting an engine might be exactly what I'm talking about. Suppose you are a commercial airplane pilot, who flys 10 successful flights a month for 10 years. Their defaults clearly work. To introduce a "high performance state" in that context could be a risky endevour, and could introduce variablity to a fine-performaing system. Eric |
