Hello, Ryan,
This forum phenomenon really works. My interest is fairly cursory as a practitioner of different mind-body techniques and being taught eye movement related techniques from a couple teachers who are NOT related to EMDR.

I first had Rapid Eye Movement therapy from a layperson who was not doing official EMDR. A few years later I was able to receive standard EMDR for several sessions. Around the same time I was taught and received other techniques that use eye movement as part of their protocols.

From the bits and pieces I have gathered recently off the internet -- some here -- there are more things going on than easily seen. The "tip of the iceberg phenomenon" is at work here, and I said this to one of my teachers. I told him that I heard rumors of libel suits, gag orders, corporate protective maneuvers, etc.,things I don't want to delve into that might draw attention to me.

He said that if I could document that Francine Shapiro had been enrolled in a training of NLP then perhaps a case could be made about her not inventing EMDR in a vacuum.

Otherwise, I have decided to be comfortable with describing the situation as:

"In the times when astute observers were beginning to investigate the influence of mental processes on the movements of the eyes (NLP), Francine Shapiro did the reverse, she made the serendipitous discovery that movements of the eyes could affect mental processes."

I think I will leave it at that for now.
