Dave, I think science has proved the conscious mind does not exist or stand for anything, in reality, and the fact you are unconscious now, means it's fine to act as if it did, since whether it will or didn't soon, you might find in it that to learn how to use one, with growing understanding and intelligence, is an act how you feel best than otherwise you will.
