Hi, GSM. I want to clarify something I wrote. In items (8) through (10) of the prior post, I listed the steps for perception-checking a problem behavior. Perception-checks can be used when some behavior is misunderstood by one of two communication partners, in which case a problem behavior is any behavior by one communication partner that the other communication partner questions. I think the distinction between description and interpretation is a principle of scientific analysis, and has inspired many different approaches to gathering knowledge. So, I believe that the perception-checking method was inspired by some basic scientific principle of analysis. I'm not an expert on the scientific method, though, not by any means. -nj |
