Excuse me for budding in, but I believe that John would say, "mapping," yes, "reality," no.

And of course the "internal" and "external" gets a bit problematic as well.  The territory, I believe, includes what one might choose to call external and internal.  And the "territory" is perhaps evidence that there is something that might be a territory.

What John calls representation doesn't equate to what cognitive science usually means by the term, and to my understanding is closer to something between emergent phenomena and Varela's "enactment."

But anybody, please correct me if I'm wrong.
