I think "nj" has just demonstrated ample evidence why his earlier thread, suggesting "anonymous" posting abilities (and gratuitous advice about a different technology) is a manifestly BAD idea. As someone who's participated in, created and moderated many successful on-line communities there is one rule we all learned from The WELL in the early 90s: If people are responsible for their own words, they'll be more considerate of others. Anonymity precludes the requisite responsibility. I have always been amazed by those (sometimes even myself) who are so argumentative with people who do original work. Yes, I argued vehemently for my own limitations back in the early 80's with John and Richard. Since then I learned a definition: "Humility: The recognition that, perhaps, I have something to learn here." --Friday |
