Hi, Michael.

Visit the infopop community site, at:

http://community.infopop.net/2/OpenTopic?a=cfrm

to see a fully functional forum.  That would probably be the most convenient, although it's set up with 2 tiers, and you only need one.

The UBB.x has a lot of features, see http://www.infopop.com/products/ubbx/
[click the picture of the bulletin board or the tour button to the immediate top right of it to browse features.]
It is offered with hosting, see the shared hosting plan at:
http://www.infopop.com/webhosting/
And you can try a sample version with one forum at:
http://tryit.infopop.cc/6/ubb.x

Regarding the FAQ, Mr. Grinder and Ms. Bostic St Claire might suggest more items to add to the FAQ, to save themselves time, which you might ask after.

I look forward to posting in the definitions forum you will have ready soon. :-)

ps: when deciding on how to keep the site newsgroup simple, I think registration is an important criterion.  That can be turned off in UBB, so that registration is optional.  The advantage of registering is that you can edit your own messages, so long as you have your own password.

I think the UBB.X software does not require any complex programming, so be aware of that, but someone will still have to do a minimum of administration.
