Hi Michael, John and nj Michael - I have a significantly different perception of logical positivism and its spawn. For example, behaviorism was never part of what the Vienna Circle did - it was the psychologists' interpretation of the philosophy of logical positivism of the Vienna Circle that created behaviorism. Further you state that you see no difficulty with mentalist theories from the point of view of the Vienna Circle - this is completely different than my understanding - while the Vienna Circle was a dynamic group and continually developed their philosophy, one constant was the insistance that science as a organized human activity should eschew any discussion of those portions of experience that cannot be measured or at a minimum sensed at the level of direct (sic) perception. Thus, the importance of Chomsky's revolution in linguistics that cracked the black box limitation imposed by the positivist doctrines. John - it is difficult for me to appreciate how Wittgenstein in his studies of language could be somehow working out of the non-dominant hemisphere - perhaps you could elaborate on how you perceive this. nj - both cases occur - that is, non-overlapping interpretations that are in some cases contradictory and in others simply different and most frequently incomenserate.
