Thanks for the splicing and diceing, Stephen. It helped.  I'm starting to realize that in some ways the authors' are taking a strong intstrumentalist view of subjectivity, but because of the inherent flaws in strong instrumentalist stances, the authors' occasionally jump into a kind of causal-representational realism.  Whatever.

I would have expected Dr. Grinder to have thrown out the term 'unconscious' right around the same time he threw out the word 'spirit' as a relevent term to NLP modelling...
