Its widely known that Freud spent nearly a year with the French neurologist Jean Charcot who was using hypnotism during the early stages of his career.  Freud found that the effects of hypnosis didn't last.  Freud has been noted as the original thinker in explicating a model of dynamic unconscious processes and states that drive a broad spectrum of human behavior (hidden from the conscious mind).

Freud's famous tripartite model of the structure of the mind owes itself in part to the descrption of the mind by Plato.

Freud's work has had such an influence on how we understand the workings of the mind (arguably spawning the various related fields of psychotherapy) that without even reading his work, someone is significantly borrowing from Freud.  In that sense, NLP owes a lot to Freud at the very least.
