John

1. You write,

"Are there particular patterns you recommend to disrupt f1 associations formed verbally?"

Tasking (see Whispering - the story of Susan and the format for changing belief systems)

2. You proposed the question,

"For instance, does language predispose me to associate particular responses to foreground vs background,

Yes, I think that's exactly right. What you talk about is what you centered in attention and vice versa. This is one of the most powerful effect of language and f2 filters in general.

3. you write,

"And how much may language syntax influence that of behavior, specifically physiological and perceptual behavior?"

This is, for Carmen and me, one of the most interesting areas needing research. Consider the example from Bateson of kicking the dog (in both Turtles and Whispering). The powerful effect of the contribution of the structure (syntax) of the language is particularly insidious as it is wholly unconscious except for strange creatures such as linguistic.

All the best,

John
