Hello, Dr. Grinder 1. You wrote, "So, am I correct in my understanding that you don't model in the sense described in Whispering?" You decide. I can learn in a know-nothing state, and I have in the past. I have had cause to explicate to myself what I learned after being able to replicate the behavior of a source model. I have not performed all the following steps in sequence: - 1. consciously chosen a behavior I want to learn - 2. learned how to replicate the results of the behavior and learned the behavior's contexts - 3. developed an explicit model of the behavior - 4. taught my model to others, in exchange for payment. When learning from someone while also in a know-nothing state, I have experienced a state of trusting the person while imitating him. In that state, I learned effectively from the person. I adopted his behaviors in large chunks without necessarily recognizing it. But I knew the source of the behaviors, and either trusted him, or was in rapport with him. I better trust people who regularly break rapport with me. A person who regularly breaks rapport with me rarely wants to put me in an intense state of rapport with him, if that person is my friend or my teacher. I put myself in a whole-body state of rapport with someone who is teaching me a sports skill, because I will be imitating his physical movements, and I keep that state of rapport while he demonstrates the behavior that I want to learn. Aside from events of my learning physical activities, micro-movements are not what I want to imitate while I learn a skill from someone, unless I trust that someone. I usually develop that trust after getting to know the person, and that takes time. I am an enthusiastic student, but my life situation has to support my learning process, or I won't have the attention that I need to learn what I study. I consider that when I decide whether to research any important behaviors. Having read this post, what do you want me to post about my modeling efforts, or what feedback do you have for me? -nj |
