John, When I read the passage about how Six Step Reframing originated, (during that brief period of sickness) I was struck by the structure of the 'deal' made by you with 'the unconscious'. It seemed to me similar to the kind of 'deal's that I attempted to make with 'God', as a child. "Dear God, If you can take care of it that the teacher doesn't collect the homework today, I'll make sure that I'll always do on time it in the future", for example! Lots of people have told me that their prayers have this kind of structure when they are ill or in distress. This leads me to wonder if the structure is, like the ability to learn language, hard-wired? Prayer seems a pretty universal phenomenon. On the other hand you benefited from a Catholic upbringing, and so I guess you could have received instruction in how to pray from an early age. Do Jesuits teachers train students how to pray effectively I wonder? Mindful that you give due credit to others for contributing to your discovery of Six Step Reframing , I wonder if you have any speculations as to why when you asked for help from your unconscious to get you past that brief weekend of sickness, your unconscious answered so resolutely, especially as you had no access to the Six Step Model which is the acme of conscious/unconscious negotiation, until after the weekend in question.
