Stephen Especially in Latin American countries, there is a strong movement to identify the involuntary signals developed in 6 step with prayer or even talking to god. You (correctly, I think) point out that the structure of the deal and prayer share some characteristics. I would suggest that perhaps the historical development is a growing recognition that "god" is ultimately our ability to recognize and accept responsibilitily for the consequences of our own actions, both intended and unintended. The narrative in Whispering has some unfortunate consequences - I had had many experiences in which my uncosncious delivered under extreme circumstances performances that were astonishing and instrumental in their effects (saving my ass, in one way or another). The emergence of the pattern was unique (in my experience) principally because of its precision and balance. Every athlete, adventurer, explorer knows this relationship. You asked, "...any speculations as to why when you asked for help from your unconscious to get you past that brief weekend of sickness, your unconscious answered so resolutely..." By resolutely, I assume you are referring to essentially telling me (consciously) to butt out. Who knows, as Carmen and I mentioned in Whispering, there were years of acting (in concert with others as well as alone) where prepared me to produce the pattern - possibly, the pattern wouln't presently exist were it not for an opportune question by one of the participants and my response by jotting down the 6 steps - we may have been doing (in some less than organized fashion) all the steps of the pattern without conscious recognition... You know, I recognize that you are too intelligent to ask for a Cause-Effect relationship here, but I am uncertain what category of response you are seeking here - offer me a description of the set of explanations you are seeking, maybe we both get to learn something.
