Stephen, Great question. You know, it may have had very little to do with the deal he made or tried to make. I've written some of my best poems when I was too drunk to remember having done them. I've also supposedly done some great musical performances in a similar state, though they be rare. I know I'm not the exception to the rule here, and while I no longer condone the irresponsible use of intoxicants, there is a lesson in these observations (as all Taoists are aware). If John had simply believed he had made the deal, and believed that there was an autonomous and wiser and more intelligent part of him that he could enlist, that may have been enough, and we all know how it's a lot easier to believe things in some types of altered state. I've long thought -- even before discovering NLP -- that tricking oneself is one of the best ways to rise beyond habitual expectations, and perhaps this is what happened and what makes 6 step reframing function when it does. best, JS |
