John Asked "a. explicitate what the ordering principle (see especially the section beginning on page 285) that generates this hierarchy of levels is - the entire section on ordering relationships argues that any presentation of hierarchy to be coherent must identify the generating principle. I suggest you review this section and then attempt to respond." Answer PM: The hierarchy is governed by use: The result obtained by the higher level NLP are used at the lower level: NLP level I is application of models, to generate change (solving the clients problem) NLP level II is application of modeling principles (generating a new pattern) NLP level III is figuring out new modeling principles & creating new distinctions. it is creating models about creating models The underlying ordering principle is the same as the one you proposed on “Whispering” on page 287 for the meta-model, namely the relationship …covers:establishes scope over… (downward) or … is covered by/is within the scope of… (upward) (note: a similar hierarchy was presented by John J. Emerick in his article “What is NLP?” in NLP World Vol.6, n°2 – July 1999) John asked "b. propose some utility for it once the generating principle has been explicate (1 above). What is the point of your proposal - what consequences would the acceptance and application of such a hierarchy entail?" Answer PM: The utility for the hierarchy is currently selfishly limited to trying to figure out 2 things: a) whether you want to see more modeling on what I would call “Level II” in the above description or more meta-modeling on my Level III. b) wether the “Presentation of patterning” described in “Whispering” on p.53 would also apply to distinctions created at Level III (such as meta-programs, according to me) or would only apply to level II (thus explaining why I found it hard to write about meta-programs in the requested format).
