Hi, Sarah. I use the phrase " to choose" to: (1) perform verbal (and written) acts in compliance with particular constitutive rules of communication, that prescribe how to show interest, respect, or friendliness. (2) verbally (or in writing) connote the complement set of internal computations termed "to be forced to" Uses (1) and (2) are not an exhaustive list of my uses of the term "to choose". An example application of a constitutive rule, applied in a written communication, is: (3) I chose to write that post to you. I would like to have some statement of the definition, or multiple statements, multiple definiens (senses), of "choose", to refer to, as we write back and forth. You could create them yourself, or get one or two from the dictionary. -nj |
