Forget about encountering NLP at the doctoral level - not going to happen. Grinder's doctorate was in linguistics. Bandler's "doctorate" was in ????. Psychologists aren't going to spend their time on this. When you get to the doctoral level, you will learn how to do academic research. You can get a shortcut by going to Dissertation Abstracts Online and searching for NLP by its abbreviation as well as its full name. Also search for eye movements, representational systems, predicate matching and rapport. You will find a whole slew of people who have studied NLP in a research testing setting. For the most part, NLP failed virtually all of the tests. NLP'dom responded blaming the researchers instead of acknowledging and fixing a problem. Guess they didn't realize it's a far cry from Bandler and Grinder "curing" someone who is an expectant volunteer (Like a faith healing) at the front of the room and a double blind study. Very few, pathetically few, NLP studies showed it to be a valid science. Eye movements, matching predicates, matching posture etc all failed repeated tests. But, enjoy NLP and come up with something to study. At the rate research goes, you could still be the first to prove the states John and Carmen talk about in WITW or you could be the first to prove they're full of hot air. NLP never made it into the text books because it couldn't be proven. |
