See this is where I believe you and Michael Hall miss the boat.  While it may be useful to draw on cog sci at times, NLP and cog sci are really like oil and water and should not be mentioned on the same day.  There are those who are so grounded in cog sci and statistical psychology (an attempt to make one of the "humanities" a hard science -- not!), that they can't understand how something like FA is a conceptual tool (useful fiction)and that their own learnings, ie cog sci believes there is no pure FA, are both based on different sets of mapping aesthetics, since pure conjecture based on observation and that based on scientific are really different logical types, as are cog sci and nlp.
