John, Here's a description of samadhi with the (hopefully obvious) caveat that I haven't experienced it yet myself and am using Yoganada's description instead: Its characterized by certain physiological ....phenomena(amongst other "features") 1)complete cessation of respiratory activity (samadhi has some nicknames- the "breathless state", "deathless state"). its quite literally suspended animation of the body 2)internal kinesthetic sensation: overwhelming bliss centered about the spinal column IN addition the auditory representational system is quiet;the visual representational system is blank. the cerebral/spinal centers in the head are warm due to the effects of kriya yoga practice(mentioned below) Its quite normal for jivanmukta to remain in this state for several hours. this spiritual attainment is actually produced by kriya yoga practice. the phenomena mentioned here are by-products of the samadhi state, but not the goal of it. hopefully this description is explicit enough Jim |
