Hi Michael and Peter (and John, Carmen et al), As a medical practitioner I am in a group practice that services approx 10,000 people. In that population we have several patients with chronic enduring mental illness....schizophrenia and other psychoses, manic-depression, severe uni-polar depression etc... Most of the success I have had with NLP interventions is around mild to moderate depression, anxiety, habit disrders...none in the chronic enduring group...partly because most are under psychiatric review and medicated to some degree...partly because I don't want to risk an intervention that might worsen their situation. To date I have heard of no validated reports of NLP practitioners being able to help this group with prolonged success. What I would be interested in setting up is a master-class for therapeutic intervention. I could arrange for clients of this subgroup (with their signed permission and that of their psychiatrist and family practitioner) to have an NLP intervention with a leading practitioner....with full explanation etc to the assembled group of the why's and wherefores of each intervention and the therapeutic nuances of application etc. The seminar could be filmed and made available to interested parties as long as various medico-legal issues were addressed. I could also organise for both short and long term follow up...this could be taped too. I have little doubt that this would be a sell out... The vagaries of the NHS in the UK means that individual patients could not be charged for this. Yet seminar attendees could pay a seminar fee. I suspect the revenue may not be enough to attract a top player in the NLP field...or would it? Perhaps such a person would be able to see beyond mere short term financial gain and look to the advancement of the field of NLP as a whole, together with it's increased scientific and medical acceptance....any takers?? I should add....before anyone else does...that Richard Bandler was said to have undertaken something similar...written up in Magic in Action...however from my perspective none of the clients therein had what I (or others medically) would term chronic enduring mental illness...nice work though!
