Hello, Dr. Grinder. 1. You wrote, "I was surprised by your inclusion of an injunction against appealing to any higher order principle - you commented, "...without resorting to an entity or controling device of some kind...(god, genetic code, mental representations etc.)" While I agree, I had always assumed that such appeals lie outside the boundaries of legitimate scientific enquery but certainly such a 'cauz mommy says so' explanation would quickly 'solve' any connundrum." It's you who says so, Dr. Grinder, the same person who rejects another's explanation as being inadequate, hopefully not because of who said it. BTW, performance anxiety could be what understanding emergence serves to lessen. I just thought of that drumming example of yours. If that's not the point, to encourage fine performances from exemplars under the stage lights, then I don't see what the study of emergence could do for you and Ms. Bostic St. Clair. As far as I'm concerned, emergence, applied to human behavior, will be just another intellectual fad. Unless you're developing another way for scientists to model human behavior. In that case, uh, I've already written about the worthlessness of doing that, haven't I. When's that book coming out? I've been waiting and waiting, and I haven't had a fire in the fireplace since I used my last batch of kindling. -nj |
