Hi nj and e_lie, From what I've read of E-prime (here and some references), it sounds like it has some useful application for removing some static beliefs we hold. Just as the metamodel removes a distortion, deletion, or generalisation, e-prime adjusts our language and makes it more specific ("John is a farmer" becomes "John farms 3 acres"). So is it possible that by using e-prime, we can state something more clearly, similarly to metamodelling a sentence?, BUT, in doing that we may be getting into more detail than required (also similar to the meta model)? I mean, "Greg is 5'11" is okay in some circumstances. Similarly, "I walked to the bank" is enough - we don't need "I walked quickly to the bank". We simplify things to make them easier for our mind and for communication, but in doing so sometimes we remove something important. So far, that's how I'm understanding e-Prime. It's got some uses, very similar to the challenges for metamodel (generalisations-Universal Quantifiers, "I always eat meat"). These can be valuable to challenge ("always?"), but there's a time and place? Just my current thoughts... I'm late (... or is that I will arrive late? I might arrive late? I may arrive 5 minutes late?..). Must run! |
