Hi Michael Carrying on the Juggling theme, I wondered how you would use this in the New Code Format. Do you simply juggle for 10-15 minutes then take that state into the original first position again? It seems that juggling is another one of those activities that is best done without conscious mind involvement other than setting the intention. I was thinking about which brain pathways it might involve as I got the sense when doing it that it was completely automatic almost like I was simply observing my hand effortlessly reaching out time and time again. This reminded of the Blindsight phenomonen. This is when a person has extensive damage to the visual cortex and is technically blind. However if an object is thrown to them then they can automatically reach out to catch it or turn to avoid it even though they can't "see" it. It seems there are two visual pathways, one for "conscious" sight and an older pathway that is "non-conscious". The non-conscious pathway travels via the brainstem up into the parietal lobes which deal with position sense and visuo-spatial mapping. Neurologists call this the "how" pathway - quite appropriate for NLP! (There is a "what" pathway too!) The HOW pathway evolved for "orienting" reflexes, quick responses to external fast moving stimuli. Seemingly when someone with blindsight "catches" a ball it is described as if a "zombie" is operating inside them. They just get a "feeling" inside which causes them to move even though they have no conscious awareness of why they have done so. So what does this have to do with juggling? Well I suspect that the same pathway is involved, hence the conscious "wonderment" at seeing the balls flying through the air from hand to hand with ease. Regards, Lewis. |
