Hi Michael, Postmodernism aside, 'Postmodern' seems an appropriate description of John's approach. My point is that the presupposition of multiple choices, identities, not being tied is one way to achieve a freedom from limiting beliefs but not the only way. "Included in John's statement are the following presuppositions 1. That you (can)choose careers and adventures 2. You select (can) your competency standards 3. That 1 and 2 combined (can) assist you to master a significant number of your choices. GSM, if you think about it, this approach enables you to achieve your suggestion of sticking to a field and being a genius in it and/or pursue different choices both personally and professionally." I certainly thought about it :) And to be fair you are putting things in John's recommendations which were distinctly not there. Its not what John suggested. The idea that I own in this thread is to stick to one field, this entails focusing down for a life-time's worth of commitment and achieving the degree of excellence and perhaps genius that only a life-times commitment could provide. And my point in this is that you can do this free of limiting beliefs (hegemonic beliefs for example), even when you limit yourself to accomplishments in a specific field, the more you can do this the better in terms of attaining exceptional degrees of excellence (and for some genius). |
