The distinction I made here was not quite the same as put by others...but of course I'm using other people's research and contributions(as we all do..no point in reinventing the wheel). If you ever get the chance to look at psychological studies of great achievers they have tended (far more often than not) to focus their lives on their particular field (and maybe at the expense of other areas in their lives). More often than not. On the other hand, if you stretch yourself over too many different domains, no matter the potential you are less likely to reach the upper levels of super achievement in any particular one. We only have one life, and what you do with it has its limits...spread yourself widely or focus deeply. Hey your poetry must be pretty damned good...any examples!! I'd love to read it if its that good :)...(website?). I wouldn't consider myself to have been as focused as I'd like to have been, I've dabbled in many areas with quite a high level of proficiency, but that doesn't contradict my point at all. |
