I have gone through practitioner training, but must acknowledge that I have only minimal knowledge of NLP modelling. However, as a budding psychologist I have heard from a few reputable quantitative psychologists that construct validity is one of the greatest challengest for the modern social scientist. The debate over construct validity will go on possibly indefinitely, one instructor suggested, because just as some consensus about what is meant by a particular construct is about to be reached, theories/paradigms often change. My current map suggests that this phenomenon has been eloquently described in the opening pages of "Whispering." What some social scientists seem to hope their readers will forget, however, is that when construct validity is successfully challenged, statistical validity vaporizes or becomes insignificant (regardless of the alpha levels that have been so effortfully reached). |
