Patrick, Thanks for your response. I can see the utility of the of the specific example you noted of the child lacking viatmin B-1. Regardless, that type of approach will not do you much good in a situation where their is not a single solution or a "correct" drug, vitamin, technique etc. to employ. Often, when we look for the "it" or "the cause" we lose the ability to manipulate the process that may change the outcome. In the context that I work in I am looking for a re-organization of the process by which a person moves and thinks. 'How else can one decide whether a patient has a problem? " I do not decide whether a not a person has a "problem." They present a "problem" (normally a symptom of some sort). My job is to help them reorganize their perception and action so that the sympton disappears, lessons or become irrelevant to them. If I decide how they "should" act or move based on some external standard of normality or average I would, in my opinion, have committed an egregious violation of ethics and integrity. People have a lifetime of motor experience and habits. Imposing my own solution on them would not further their creativity and ability to act independently. I would rather have people develop their own unique solutions based on what is possible for them rather than someone else's idea of their "deficits." Ryan |
