Ah yes... The elusive easy sell. Aint ethics a bitch. It is much easier if you really get in their and manipulate the clients world by introducing content. Piece of cake, especially if you've got a bigger bag of tricks than them. What happens if the client gets home and got something they didn't really want. What have they been sold then? Just some widget that someone sold them one day. This is a very difficult issue. It's easy to sell by this definition. But what are we selling? Is this even selling? A Brief History of Sales in Western Civilization: Once upon a time... It used to be that sales meant having a bunch of cool tools to get the client to buy what I sell. Period. Then it was about making the client think they needed what I have (still is on some planets). Then it was about finding out what the client wanted and selling that to them. Then it was about building a relationship with someone who could come to the salesperson with the complete confidence that he/she would help them identify and get what they wanted, even if it meant sending them somewhere else. To be continued... (Hey, some things just take time.) Todd |
