Do you see how (1) presupposes that its two propositions are mutually exclusive? That is an example of one reason I can not really resopnd that well to your posts because before I could answer your specific questions we'd have to spend quite some time agreeing on our basic concepts. My concept of hypnosis is not very congruent with the way it is used in NLP circles, so my terms (while the same) have quite different meanings. So, for instance, the idea of giving a hypnotic suggestion, while I understand your meaning (i think), does not fit well within my experience of the hypnotic relationship. I'm not trying to avoid your question, but just to contexualize why I think I am not able to dig into this conversation. If you've read any of Gilligan's newer conceptualizations of trance work, then you'd have a beginning framwork for my work with trance phenomena. But even he and I go our seperate way in understanding the nature of altered states. thanks, Matt |
