Have you ever played the telephone game? It's the one where aperson whispers a message to another person who then in turn whispers to yet another. After a number of turns, the original message is often distorted beyond recognition. The results are often surprising and hilarious. At the beginning of this thread, Gene wrote "Now, in WITW, John and Carmen suggest that a alleged MS is nothing more than a 3rd perceptual position (3PP) revisited. And that while interesting, neither of them espouse how that the 'proliferation' of multiple MS would be useful." It seems to me that the Meta-States model discussed here is not the model in its original form, but a highly distorted version that is the result of linguistic transformations similar to those found in the telephone game. I would suggest going to the source and reading at least one introductory article by Michael Hall before continuing this discussion. If anyone reads one of those articles and still equates a meta-state with 3rd position I will be amazed. Even better, read one of the articles with the filter "this is just third position" and see what happens. Then ask yourself if this filter is the same as3rd position. Have fun! - Ulic |
