Ulic, In order to be 'happy about your confusion', you must actually take a 2nd position to your confusion. A meta-state is nothing but the state you experience in 2nd perceptual. Every article that Hall has written about meta-states talks about how to perceive your own 'primary state'. It is a disassociation which you take to your state in order to 'texture' it. It can be a 3rd position also, you can feel 'motivated about your happiness at your confusion' although I think this gets a bit ridiculous. Nonetheless, when you do take that 2nd position, you are making a judgement about your 1st position state which means you are creating a belief which contains your value and your criteria for achieving that value. Ulic, M.H. has only enriched 2nd position coding. He has found nothing new. However, one should be able to do a better job at disassociating with a stuck state through his model. Oh, 2nd position is NOT a higher logical level. How can happiness contain confusion? Just as how hatred can't contain a state of love. However, you can say you hate your love for X as much as you like. Disassociation does not per se, make it a higher level. Re-read Bateson Ulic. Regards, Gene |
